My husband and I read a lot of this together as we are working as a team to help him. I am going through school as an addictions counselor and I think that this is by far the best book I've seen besides those provided by my Church, the LDS faith, such as He Restoreth My Soul, by Donald L. Hilton Jr. MD and the manual for the 12 step program. Pornography is a problem that has become very prevalent in all of society and no one is excluded. I have heard a statistic that states 80 % have been exposed to pornography in one way or another (though I bet it's higher) and 60% are currently involved in some level of addiction. Some people want help and some don't think it's a problem, but as a wife and victim I understand the pain and sense of betrayal. But because of my education I also understand that there is literally a high-jacking of the brain that takes over just like any drug. This book gives a very clear explanation of the specific levels or degrees of involvement and severity of addiction which helped my husband give me a clear picture of where he was now and where he had been without giving me the grisly details I wasn't comfortable hearing. Once we discovered his triggers he has been more confidant with his ability to prevent more relapses. Excellent tool for process and understanding what the severity level is and where to go from there. Step by step recovery procedures.

This book provides an excellent explanation about how pornography addiction starts, and gives sound and practical advice on how to overcome it. This book is written for the layman, as a supplement to therapy. I highly recommend it for anyone who is struggling with a pornography addiction, or for someone wanting to understand stand more about porn addiction.

This has helped my husband get through some tough times and now we are on day 670...he still has temptation which is just the nature of a sinful man or women but it has really made a difference in our marriage and both of our lives! Would recommend this to anyone that is struggling. Also, a quick tip: Setting Captives Free which is a website for this stuff kind of stuff too was helpful to my husband.

No groundbreaking, evidence-based, therapeutic information was shared in this book.

I'm a treating psychologist and have found this book very, very helping for folks struggling with a porn addiction.

I was inadvertently sent the audio book instead of the paperback book which I ordered and so I was not able to have on hand the questions and/or exercises at the end of each chapter. Still, it was my choice to keep what was sent and I did get a lot out of the reading. However, the reason I did not give this 5 stars is because there were several helps or suggestions that went on the assumption that we all had someone living with us. For that reason some things such as, "don't go on the computer when you're home alone" did not help. That is , perhaps, knit picking so I will say that this was a very helpful book and I have put into practice things I had never considered before. Bear in mind, however, no one gets rid of anything in their life unless they really want to. This is not a magic cure but it is one good book for those who really want to make a change.

Grade 4 Up-The experiences of 15 children who survived the Holocaust in hiding are presented here within the historical context of the Nazi rise to power and World War II. These youngsters were sheltered in a variety of private homes and institutions by "righteous Gentiles," family friends, and those simply looking for additional money; some were resented, some treated compassionately, and others mistreated and abused physically. Greenfeld has interviewed these survivors, who are now living in the U.S., and has recorded their memories. Both the mundane and the unusual are remembered; the most commonly described feelings are the fear that family members would perish and the sense of guilt at having survived while others did not. There are reminiscences of narrow escapes and poignant remembered pleasures of edible treats. While the chronological arrangement of the book makes it difficult to follow a specific child's story (it is possible by using the excellent index), it succeeds admirably in allowing readers to place the experiences described within the framework of the Holocaust. An excellent selection of black-and-white photographs and an open design contribute to making this an important and accessible resource.

Greenfeld has spoken to survivors now living in the U.S., and he weaves pieces of their painful personal narratives with a general account of what it was like to be a Jewish child at that time. Like Anne Frank, many were hidden by Righteous Gentiles, who often risked their own lives. Like the children in Vos' Hide and Seek (1991) and Anna Is Still Here (1993), they had to lie, to be always on guard. The individual voices are intense and quiet. They speak of hunger, cold, terror, and loneliness. They remember suddenly being ashamed of themselves. Boys had to hide that they were circumcised. These children witnessed courage and also horror, such as the father who had to strangle his screaming baby to save the others in hiding. They're honest about their difficult readjustment after the war ("My mother was in such bad shape . . . she had no teethÿ20.ÿ20.ÿ20.ÿ20I couldn't stand being near her"). They will always feel guilty for having survived while others died. About the Author TERRY AND GERRY AUDESIRK grew up in New Jersey, where they met as undergraduates. After marrying in 1970, they moved to California, where Terry earned her doctorate in marine ecology at the University of Southern California and Gerry earned his doctorate in neurobiology at the California Institute of Technology. As postdoctoral students at the University of Washington’s marine laboratories, they worked together on the neural bases of behavior, using a marine mollusk as a model system. They are now emeritus professors of biology at the University of Colorado Denver, where they taught introductory biology and neurobiology from 1982 through 2006. In their research, funded primarily by the National Institutes of Health, they investigated the mechanisms by which neurons are harmed by low levels of environmental pollutants and protected by estrogen. Terry and Gerry share a deep appreciation of nature and of the outdoors. They enjoy hiking in the Rockies, walking near their home in Steamboat Springs, and attempting to garden at 7,000 feet in the presence of hungry deer and elk. They are long-time members of many conservation organizations. Their daughter, Heather, provides another welcome focus to their lives.  BRUCE E. BYERS is a midwesterner transplanted to the hills of western Massachusetts, where he is a professor in the biology department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He’s been a member of the faculty at UMass (where he also completed his doctoral degree) since 1993. Bruce teaches introductory biology courses for both nonmajors and majors; he also teaches courses in ornithology and animal behavior. A lifelong fascination with birds ultimately led Bruce to scientific exploration of avian biology. His current research focuses on the behavioral ecology of birds, especially on the function and evolution of the vocal signals that birds use to communicate. The pursuit of vocalizations often takes Bruce outdoors, where he can be found before dawn, tape recorder in hand, awaiting the first songs of a new day.
